AMERICA THOUGHT IT WAS DISCOVERING HER. BUT THIS YOUNG GIRL FROM KAZAKHSTAN HAD ALREADY BEEN PREPARING FOR THAT MOMENT FOR YEARS.
When 13-year-old Daneliya Tuleshova walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage in 2020, she appeared calm and quietly confident. Then the music started.
Daneliya performed “Tears of Gold” by Faouzia, and within seconds, it became clear that this was not an ordinary teenage singer. Her voice had power, control and a distinctive tone that made every line feel personal. By the end of the performance, the audience and all four judges were on their feet. Daneliya received four yeses and began a journey that would eventually take her all the way to the AGT final. But America’s Got Talent was not the beginning of her story.
Born in Kazakhstan, Daneliya had already spent years developing her voice and performing in international competitions. In 2017, at only 11 years old, she won The Voice Kids Ukraine after turning all the coaches’ chairs with her performance of Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold.”
A year later, she represented Kazakhstan at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 with the original song “Ózińe Sen,” finishing in sixth place. By the time she arrived on AGT, Daneliya already understood what it meant to perform under pressure. However, singing for an American audience on one of the world’s biggest talent shows was an entirely new challenge.
She continued to prove herself with each round. In the quarter-finals, she performed “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles. In the semi-finals, she delivered an emotional rendition of Jessie J’s “Who You Are,” earning another standing ovation and a place in the final. For her final competitive performance, Daneliya chose “Alive” by Sia. She also shared the stage with Ava Max during the finale, performing “Kings & Queens.” Daneliya did not win Season 15, but she finished as one of its Top 10 finalists. For a young singer who had travelled from Kazakhstan to compete before millions of American viewers, reaching the final was already an extraordinary achievement.
What made Daneliya memorable was not simply the strength of her voice. It was the composure behind it.
She never needed an exaggerated story to make people listen. She stood on the stage, allowed the music to speak and showed that talent can come from any part of the world.
AGT did not create Daneliya Tuleshova.
It gave a much larger audience the opportunity to finally hear her.
And sometimes that is what these shows do best: they do not manufacture stars. They open a door, turn on the lights and allow the rest of the world to see someone who has been working toward that moment for years.
